hey!
This week has been extra long. we pretty much know how all their grammer works so we just kinda sat and talked with our teacher in portuguese. We had a goal last week to only speak portuguese for one day and it worked pretty well. This week we were doing two days, but then we switched it to the rest of the week because it's our last days in the MTC before we leave. Wow! i still can't believe that virginia could ever be that cold! It's pretty mellow here actually. Now that i've adjusted it feels like Florida in the fall or winter. But I know i'm gonna be dying the first couple days or weeks im in Fortaleza! Today i sent off those airline baggage claim whatevers..So I was talking to Elder Reed and apparently he has this girl waiting for him back home which is cool because she took the lessons from the missionaries and then he baptized her! It's actually really funny how much he and dayton are alike!
I was talking with another elder about height and he's about 5'10. He says he'd love to be 6' and i was telling him how i am hoping to grow several inches as well..haha you're not alone LUKER! We play a ton of basketball down here too, just because we're not allowed to play futbol. We also get swoll, but yeah..haha so there's an Irmao here whose name is alavino, but we call him Irmao Brassos Grandes beacause he's huge! I'm really excited to leave and i've heard some really good things about my mission president! Love you ALL

Hey! Heverything is goin just great! my ankle is slowly getting better, but it should be fine in a few more days. Yeah when we gave out books of mormon we got to see a lot of the culture they have in central sao paulo! The brazilian bbq was amazing! I had probably 16 more chicken hearts today and alpaka! I thought it was pretty interesting..haha. I found the guys who makes scripture cases and i got them today! they're amazing! I should be out of the CTM on the 4 of feb. There are 4 missionaries leaving to go to Fortaleza Leste and 2 or 3 more going to Fortaleza! we have a pretty big group! This week we got a new CTM presidente and his name is "Swenson" I think. They seem nice. Guess what? An Elder Rodgers just came into the CTM a couple of days ago and he's from Louisa County, VA. He was in the ward that we went to that one time we went to Lake Anna. I was at his birthday sunday school class and when he got here i knew i had seen him before! Yeah so today on the way back to the temple i guess our room key slipped out of my pocket on the bus. after we hiked up six levels of stairs i realized this and ran back down with my comp. I saw the bumper of the bus leaving as we got to the ground level. So we put our jackets in another Elder's room and walked outside in the blazing, hot sun with a long sleave shirt. I was Dying! We came back asked if we get another key after we told them what had happened. They said yes, but be careful..HAHA. Last night i about drowned myself in sweat! I wish we got some of that cool down here..It's actually really nice when is rains here because the temperature is just right! It rained the other day and we left the window open so our room had a nice puddle when we finished Actividade Fisica. Those pita chips are good thanks! I love you all and i hope you stay warm enough! -Elder Padilla

Hey How is everything?
For my b-day/ p-day we went out and had cookie shakes they were delicious!! I got some sweet shower sandals! When we got back some of the elders in my district decided to silly string the heck out of me while studying! haha i love those guys! In the past week there has been three sprained ankles while playing basketball which i may or may not have caused...haha any ways i was the last of the three and sprained my ankle this past Saturday. i heard it crack a couple of times as i was headed for the floor. After that happened i decided to work out before heading to the doctor. So An elder and i did some lifting until we were done with actividade fisica. the doctor said minimum a week on crutches..and after a day on crutches i said 'nah I'm good'.. haha so we have this thing called TRC and pretty much we get an information sheet about the person a day in advance and the next day we teach them while being recorded. This way we can see what we need to improve on. Well we made a competition on how long we can stare into the camera without looking away..haha i think the record in our district in about 15 seconds! I meant to send a letter last week so i sent one today..And the address of the MTC is:
"Elder Matthew Ryan Padilla
Brazil Fortaleza East Mission
Brazil Missionary Training Center
Rua Padre Antonio D'Angelo, 121
Casa Verde
02516-040 Sao Paulo- SP
Brazil"
Anyways 2 days ago we went to the center of Sao Paulo to go Proselyting and from the eight elders in our district we gave away 22 Books of Mormon! it was amazing to be out and enjoy the town while sharing the gospel! Today we were celebrating Elder West's Birthday early so we went and ate at a Brazilian buffet! They were walking around with all sorts of meat! Today i tried a chicken heart..and then i tried it 9 more time!! haha it wasn't half bad! The one thing that they have here is Guaraná, which is the nectar of life!!! it's the best soda i've had! well I hope everything is going great! Keep going to school Josh and you might graduate..haha just kidding! Keep working hard in the plays Luker! Love you All,
Elder Padilla

Happy Birthday Elder Padilla 1-10-14

Dear mom, Reading your letter on my birthday is like you're right beside me. It seems i did inherit that happy, crying gene..;)Thanks for everything! The language is coming along at anamazing rate. And it's so nice to be emersed in the gospel so much. I met an Elder who is serving in alec's mission and told him to keep an eye for him. He's a real swell guy, Elder Chapman. The food is pretty much rice and beans with some sort of weird dessert. Guaraná is the bomb though! it's the best soda ever! I saw the picture of the count down and it looks great! I went to the temple today and it was simpley amazing. I met a new elder and later realized he's my Cousin-in-law. I met Elder Reed, dayton's cousin, two days ago and we're now the best of pals. We've got actually a bunch in common! Thanks for writing to me on my birthday! I really needed a boost! I love you all so much- Elder Padilla

Dear Dad,
Obrigado!  So I found out I cant send pictures until I'm out of the CTM, but when I'm out in my mission I can. I guess the internet is already slow as it is and they don't need pictures clogging up the systems. My investigators are pretty different one really wants to be in the church and the other one has no emotion. It's like she doesn't even hear me..But guess What? I meet my cousin-in-law two days ago and we're the Best of pals! His name is Elder Reed. He is Dayton's cousin! He lives just a few rooms down from me! He's super cool and we got a bunch in common! when I get out of the CTM I'll send the picture I took of us! love you all and I'll try to send the address later today. -Elder Padilla

3 Jan 2014 - Happy New Year

Hey, The first week was amazing! we got here and saw so many trees even in the city! This MTC is pretty awesome because we get to leave on our P-days to do shoping and we get a snack time at 9..haha Yeah we all stayed up and partied-as much as a missionary can party with his roommates- all night for the new year!! There were tons of fireworks and it was just so beautiful! I wish you could've seen it! So we just went to the Temple in São Paulo and it was so cool! we are going to be doing other cool stuff here today too! Hope all is well. Love you, Elder Padilla
